Eat cake for your snack without derailing your goals! These protein cake bites are so delicious. I am such a sucker for chocolate, so I love finding ways I can indulge without feeling crappy afterward. Sugar does very bad things to my brain and my digestion, so these cake bites make this mama very, VERY happy. The consistency is the bomb, and if you like them a little bit sweeter than I do, feel free to add 3 or 4 drops of PURE stevia (check the ingredients, because a lot of stevia products have little to know stevia in them, and are mixed with artificial sweeteners).

A note about protein powder: 99% of protein powders out there are NOT doing you any favors. If you don’t believe me, just start going through the ingredient list on the back and googling everything. Please make sure you’re using a very clean protein powder. I love plant based protein powders, but even many of those are filled with chemicals that mess up your endocrine system and act as neurotoxins (toxins that affect how your brain works: focus, attention, mood, stress, sleep, more.)

McKenna’s Protein Cake Bites

This recipe will make about 15 (tablespoon sized) balls.

3/4 cup almond butter (or all natural peanut butter)

2 Tbsp pure maple syrup

1-2 Tbsp water

1 tsp organic vanilla extract

2/3 cup almond flour

3 Tbsp dutch process cocoa powder

3 servings of your favorite chocolate protein powder (for us, that’s 3 scoops of chocolate SunWarrior Protein which you can find here OR 6 scoops XM Protein which you can find here. But don’t buy it at retail pricing! Sign up for their wholesale membership or contact me on your favorite social media platform so I can hook you up with wholesale pricing.)

Combine everything together well. You should end up with a slightly crumbly consistency, but still wet enough to hold together when you roll it into balls. This is going to vary depending on 2 main things: 1) Your almond butter consistency (some are more runny than others); 2) Your protein powder consistency. If you need to add a little more water to get the consistency desired, go for it. If it’s too wet, then you would want to add more almond flour – but go SLOW, adding just a teaspoon or less at a time, because it thickens things up really quickly.

Now just chill the cake bites in a glass airtight container and enjoy! They’ll keep in the fridge for up to a week, but probably won’t last that long!

For your convenience, here are some Amazon Prime links to items you might not have on hand. These are links to the exact brands that I keep in my pantry, and the cheapest price I was able to find on Amazon. Don’t let the prices fool you – remember, you only use a little bit in each recipe—AND, check the Amazon item page because you can order small bags or big bags of almond flour!
