My little boy invented this spinach smoothie one morning, and it is the most delicious thing! I’ll give you the recipe first, and then I’ll tell you one of the easiest ways you can give your children amazing nutrition without a fight. Soon, they’ll be asking you if they can make a green smoothie.

Carter’s Spinach Smoothie
8 oz water
4 ice cubes
5 4-year old handfuls of spinach (about 3-4 loose cups)
1 red apple, cored
1/2 cup mixed frozen berries
1/2 cup blueberries
Directions
Add all to blender in the order listed above. Put the lid on, plug your ears, and push the button. Pour into a really fun cup or thermos, and enjoy!
Carter liked this smoothie so much that he drank half of it for breakfast, and we poured the other half into popsicle makers to enjoy after dinner.
Your kids can like spinach smoothies, too…
If you’re worried at all about whether your kids are getting enough veggies and fruit, if your family seems to catch every little bug that comes around, if your kids have digestion problems (constipation, gas) or skin problems (eczema, dryness, itching), if they always have a runny nose or even excessive hyperactivity or lack of focus, just TRY giving them a daily green smoothie. I’m practically begging you, because it will make such an amazing difference in your children’s health.
One of the best ways to get your kids excited about healthy food is to have them help make it. Get out an assortment of leafy greens, berries and other fruit, as well as coconut oil and sesame seeds, and put them on the table. Let them get creative!
Supervise and lightly guide them into making a green smoothie. Start with 8 ounces of water, and then have them add the greens. Then have them add fruit of their choice: berries, apples, bananas, peaches, etc. Lastly, add 1-2 tsp of coconut oil and a couple Tbsp of sesame seeds (these are great for brain development and immune system). Let them push the smoothie button and help them pour it into a really cool looking cup or thermos.
If your little one makes a great recipe they’d like to share, take a picture of them holding their smoothie, or with a green smoothie mustache (or just of the green smoothie) and have them share their recipe here. I’m sure they’ll be pretty excited about being “famous” online for their recipe! 🙂
Hey – thanks for posting this. I’ve become a recent advocate of the green smoothie…lol But I have to ask. when I put the ingredients for this smoothie into sparkpeople (which is where I track my calories) it doesn’t have the protein count that you have listed. How do you come up with 31 g of protein? sparkpeople only shows 4.3 with 4 cups of spinach. 🙁
oh boy! that would definitely be a typo. I’ll fix it asap!
