My one beef with natural personal care products is that they take too long to make, are often expensive, and—sorry—but they don’t always do a good job. Oh, was that 3 reasons? I guess I’m a little ornery about it. Which makes me happy to share with you this 5 minute recipe that costs less than the chemical-laden crap at the grocery store, and WORKS.
I’ve been self conscious of how I smell ever since ditching the chemicals that cover up the smell of humans with synthetic stuff. Trust me, I’ve tried every brand imaginable, and while some of them kind of do the trick, or at best, mostly do the trick, none of them make my pits smell like NOTHING. There is NO smell on my pits when I crawl into bed at night, and yes, I’m checking. Every night. Sometimes “Superstah!” style… just because I love you guys. I research for your benefit!
Watch the Periscope broadcast below to see me doing a live demo on my simple, homemade deodorant. If you’ve never heard of Periscope before, it’s a livestreaming app that allows viewers to watch me live and interact with me. So you’ll see me answering questions and interacting with people from the live broadcast (just so you know I’m not crazy and talking to myself!)
Skip to about 3:20 if you don’t want to hear my introduction mumbo-jumbo and get right to the recipe magic.
And here’s what you want to make sure you have before you get started:
- Purified water
- Magnesium flakes (I get mine from Amazon, and here’s the best brand.
)
- Your favorite (non-spicy–it’s your armpits, remember) essential oils
- Glass spray bottles. (It’s pretty hard to find 4 oz bottles, which I think is the perfect size so you don’t have to refill so often, but found a great set on Amazon. Here’s the link!
)
- Small sauce pan
- Small funnel
- 5-10 minutes
